SEA-ME-WE
Diptych HD Film – color – stereo sound – 19 min – 2015
Undercover of a fiction, SEA-ME-WE is an essay on communications techniques influences on language and diplomacy. Film transcribes, as a symbolic translation, the cultural exchanges between the countries interconnected by cable SEA-ME-WE4. As a diptych narrative, action takes place in two different geographical contexts : Marseille and Palerme – the two first connected cities of the cable. Shot in the seaport of Marseille, the left screen is a theatre-fiction reenacting the inauguration of SEA-ME-WE3 cable ; the right screen is set on a motor boat and play – in an Italo Calvino manner, the picturesque quest of two characters trying to spot and then spy on a submarine internet cable. Narrative links are visually established between the two, playing with ubiquity and telepathy concepts.
